That's not true. No where does it say ppto can be used for "anything". In fact, the policy is clearly talking about the use of ppto BEFORE you even clock in for the shift. It's not meant to be used because you just feel like leaving work early for no reason. You can absolutely coach for productivity in my scenario above.
Our store tried to do this same thing. I was actually given a half point for using PPTO to leave early about a month ago. Once like 10 of us made the call to ethics they removed the points and took that rule away. The ppto at the beginning puts you over the half shift mark. You can use this same principle to reduce points when you call off but don't have 8 hours. You can call off and put in 4 hours ppto and get a half point.
I could using ppto for a doctors appt. or to child's school function to leave early or arrive late but just using it for some BS then I get the coaching if your work is not done. Besides the aforementioned should have been previously discussed. Ppto is not an open card to just screw every one else to take up your slack ass.
