When you hit that downhill the heavy load is gone and it will cool right off. Go to your local Napa and ask for a block checker.
Jeep running hot I have a 93 Jeep grand it is running hot but has never overheated. I would recommend lowering the Jeep to 2.5-3.5 inches of lift unless you are prepared to do a lot of extra work to make 6 inches of lift comfortable. 87 4.2 YJ cutting off intermittently while driving. A few days ago while driving it shut off for a split second, and the tacho read zero. It did this a few times in a very short period then died. But started right back up and didn't act up the rest of the day. The next day it did the same one time.It eventually spiked up while at a stop light to nearly the 260 degree mark. I pulled over and let it cool down a bit before continuing on. Once I get it moving, the temperature starts dropping. I think I have a fan problem. 4 posts · Joined 2018. #1 · Aug 2, 2021. Alright guys, I need a hand. My 2014 JKU will randomly overheat up into temps of 240-250 driving the radiator fan crazy. JKU Spec’s. 186k miles. Oil changes every 5k. 3.5in lift on 35/12.5/20. Problem - overheating at idle and randomly throughout the day.
Fast forward to today (no incidents for the last couple of weeks), and it kicks on while I'm going about 40mph. And then turns off, then on, then off etc. And now the ABS and traction control lights are staying on (before they would flash then turn back off). Let me give some quick details. Living in colorado at 7000 foot, traveling often in the 8-12k range. Have replaced radiator, water pump, rad cap x3, thermostat x2, and done full system flush, fill, burp. Passed compression and cooling system pressure test last round. X2, that problem is typically caused by a bad fan clutch causing the fan to not pull enough air through the radiator when you're idling/sitting still. Well if it's your AC that causing you to overheat then to me that means your cooling system is marginal and the increase in heat load from the AC is overloading it. Start as instructed above and see where you are coming up short.
